February 2006: Two presntations of the ARTEMIS-Team at the 9th Symposium Energieinnovation in Graz (Austria). Download of the (German) Conference Papers and Abstracts at docs

Session 1A:
Katharina Kowalski, Reinhard Madlener, Sigrid Stagl: „Neue Wege der integrierten Bewertung von nationalen Energieszenarien für Österreich“

Lisa Bohunovsky, Martin Bruckner, Ines Omann, Reinhard Madlener, SIgrid Stagl: „Integrierte Nachhaltigkeitsbewertung von Energieszenarien. Eine lokale Fallstudie im Projekt ARTEMIS“

November 2005 – The final workshop as well as the public presentation of the ARTEMIS local case study took place on 21st of November 2005 in Lödersdorf. During the last 6 months SERI developed local energy scenarios based on renewable energy technologies and evaluated these scenarios with a multicriteria approach according to sustainability criteria and social preferences given by the stakeholders. Scenarios and criteria were developed in a participatory process together with stakeholders and decision makers from the two Styrian communities Raabau and Lödersdorf. In the internal part of the workshop the energy teams and mayors of both communities discussed the results of the scenario evaluation, which were presented by Ines Omann and Lisa Bohunovsky. In the public part of the workshop the results were presented to interested citizens and representatives from local media.

The ARTEMIS workshop II of the national case study “Neue Wege der integrierten Bewertung von Energieszenarien in Österreich” took place on Tuesday, the 8 th of November 2005, at the Haus der Industrie in Vienna. The aim of the workshop was to discuss the intermediate results of the national ARTEMIS case study with a group of stakeholders associated with renewable energy in Austria. In specific (1) the five renewable energy scenarios until 2020 and (2) the final set of evaluation criteria, (3) the impact matrix, and finally (4) the alternative rankings of the scenarios resulting from a multi-criteria analysis, were presented by the researcher team. The following discussion was mainly focused on details of the energy scenarios and the assumptions in the background of the impact matrix. The stakeholders' input will be used for a final revision of the multicriteria decision analysis.

June 2005
– Local Case Study: Two workshops (9 and 27 June 2005) were held with local citizens to develop and weigh the criteria for the MCDA. On 9 June the participants of the workshop discussed which criteria are important for them in regard to their energy system. Criteria such as “clean air”, “beautiful landscape”, “cheap energy supply” were named and debated. Two weeks later intensive discussion came up when trying to order the criteria according to their importance. Nevertheless all participants finally agreed on one order.

After the three initiating workshops for the local case study, time for desk-research has now come for the SERI ARTEMIS-team. During summer we will fill the impact matrix with the help of existing databases and expert interviews. In fall the MCDA shall be finished. .

May 2005 – Local Case Study: On 6 May 2005 the first workshop for the local case study took place in Raabau. 18 local experts, mainly from Raabau und Lödersdorf, discussed and specified the four energy scenarios predeveloped by SERI.

March 2005: The region for the local case study has been defined. We will do our research in two Styrian communities: Raabau and Lödersdorf. The participation process will start in April 2005. The local project is done in close cooperation with the "Energieregion Oststeiermark" and the LEA (Lokale Energieagentur Oststeiermark).

On 2 March 2005 the Artemis consortium met in London to discuss the scenario building on the national and local scale. Further, the list of concepts, criteria and indicators for a sustainable energy system was continued and will be passed on for discussion with experts soon.

January 2005: A project meeting was held in Muntlix (Vorarlberg, AUT) from January 7-9, 2005. We discussed the definition of sustainable energy systems, started with the development of criteria and indicators for a sustainable energy system and were working on national energy scenarios.
